Castle and estate weddings in Catalonia
Catalonia's countryside is full of estates with real history behind them: medieval castles rebuilt as private homes, modernist landmarks, country manors with their own walled gardens. A wedding in one of these venues has a different feel than a hotel ballroom. Here's what to know before booking, plus real castle and estate weddings from the portfolio. A castle terrace also suits a ceremony rooted in another culture, such as a Chinese tea ceremony.
How many guests fit in a historic Catalan venue?
It depends entirely on the property. A rural manor with a walled garden might suit thirty or forty guests comfortably, while a full estate with formal gardens and several interior rooms, like Castell de Sant Marçal, can handle a much larger celebration without feeling crowded. The venue's own layout sets the real limit, not a fixed rule, so it's worth asking directly once you've shortlisted a few. The Costa Brava and Empordà page covers that region's venues and how close each one sits to the city.
A garden for the ceremony, a hall or a terrace for dinner and dancing.
Can one venue host both the ceremony and the reception?
Usually, yes. Most of these estates were designed with exactly that in mind: a garden or courtyard for the ceremony, then an interior hall, terrace, or second garden for dinner and dancing. Castell de Caramany and La Baronia both work this way, so guests never have to travel between locations mid-celebration. Modernist venues in the city, like Hospital de Sant Pau, offer the same setup inside a very different kind of building.
How far ahead should you book?
For peak season, May, June, and September, 12 to 18 months ahead is typical for the venues couples want most. Shoulder-season dates give more room, usually 4 to 8 months. Historic properties tend to book earlier than newer venues simply because there's only one of each, and the popular ones fill their calendar a full year out.

Each one has its own setting and style, from a fireworks-lit night at Castell de Sant Marçal to an intimate Jewish wedding on a private estate. If the sea is what you picture instead, the page on beach weddings in Spain has its own gallery.
